How to Use Your Tax Return to Buy a New Car | Bill Knight Lincoln in Tulsa

Use your tax refund on a new car in Tulsa

Tax season: a necessary evil. It’s the time when millions of Americans fumble around their home offices trying to find the appropriate paperwork to file their taxes. For most people this comes as a nuisance each year, but in the end is usually rewarding because of the promise of a glorious and hefty tax return.

This year, the average tax return has gone up to almost $3,000! That’s a lot of extra cash. The big question is: what will you do with your tax return?

Some taxpayers choose to save but it’s no surprise that a large portion use their tax return as a down payment on a new car.

Using your tax return as a down payment on a new car can be a very smart financial decision. It can take a while to save up enough for a down payment on a car, but your tax return comes at once each year. Using a down payment on a car can actually save you money in the long run because you will:

  • Have cheaper car payments – The more money you put down on a car, the less you have to borrow or owe to the bank. You can lower your car payment by $60 a month with a $3,000 down payment. That’s up to $720 a year!

  • Own Your Car Faster – With a sizable down payment, you will be able to own your car at a faster rate because you are financing a lower amount at a shorter time period.

  • Lower Interest Rates – Borrowing less means you get a lower interest rate that can wind up saving you a ton of money!

These are just a few benefits of making the decision to use your tax return as a down payment on a new car. Whatever you decide, let our finance team help you! FIll out our online finance application!

Lincoln Love Letter | Bill Knight Lincoln in Tulsa

Lincoln MKX in Tulsa

With Valentine’s Day on our heels, cupids, stuffed bears and boxes of chocolates at every corner of the store, it’s hard to ignore the love-filled holiday. It’s also the biggest day to profess your love through a love letter. For those of you that may not have a Valentine this year, the Bill Knight Lincoln team decided to have a little fun and write a love letter to our Lincolns, showing you just why your Lincoln can be considered your Valentine this year.

My Lincoln love,

We’ve been together for more than two years now and things are getting pretty serious. I remember the first time I laid eyes on you, I knew we would be together. I’ll never forget the way the sun shined on your double winged grille, making you sparkle more than the other cars around. It was love at first sight.

The best part of my day is waking up and jumping in your warm, comfortable embrace as I travel to work. You know just how to put me in a good mood before I start my day with your plush leather, heated seats always there to keep me warm on the coldest days. You always keep me entertained with SYNC. I am never bored with you.

Making me feel safe is your main priority with your blind spot monitor, backup camera and Electronic Stability Control.

You’ve been there for all of the special moments and we’ve made countless memories together. You were there to guide me on my first job interview, date and are there every day to get me where I need to go.

I’m so glad to be able to call you mine.

Driving On Black Ice in Tulsa | Bill Knight Lincoln

2015 Lincoln Navigator

Every driver knows the danger of black ice. We are reminded every winter of the destruction it could cause. There’s no comparing the feeling of sliding freely along a sheet of thin invisible ice without being able to stop.

The Bill Knight Lincoln team is cautioning drivers in the Tulsa, Bixby, Jenks, Broken Arrow, Catoosa, Sapulpa and Coweta area against black ice and has come up with some helpful tips about how to spot and handle driving on black ice.

Conditions Surrounding Black Ice

Black Ice is more prominent during the early morning and late hours of the night when the temperature is the lowest and the roads are cooler. Areas that don’t get a lot of sunlight are also prime spots for black ice to form. Bridges and overpasses are always known to have black ice because of their metal structure and the air that circulates from underneath.

Driving in Black Ice Conditions

  • Don’t use cruise control

  • Stay a safe distance behind near-by vehicles to give you time to react without hitting anyone else in range

  • Check the tread on your tires

  • Keep an eye on the temperature and weather while driving

While on Black Ice

  • Always remain calm

  • Don’t apply brakes; this will cause you to drift even more

  • Keep your steering wheel straight and take your foot off the gas

  • If your car is gliding in one direction, keep your steering wheel in the same direction

  • Look for an area with snow or salt to gain traction

We hope you remember these tips the next time you are traveling in icy conditions.

Carpooling In Tulsa | Bill Knight Lincoln

Living in a city like Tulsa, you can expect to be in traffic on your commute to work or home. Tulsa is actually listed in the top 75 worst commutes in the country. One of the best ways drivers can help alleviate and combat traffic is by carpooling in Tulsa to and from work or school.

Carpooling in Tulsa

The Bill Knight Lincoln team in Tulsa have come up with some top reasons for drivers to share their car with familiar faces in the Bixby, Broken Bow, and Jenks area instead of commuting alone.

Why You Should Carpool in Tulsa

More Money In Your Pocket

It’s no surprise that carpooling can save you a ton of money each year. Gas prices aren’t as high as they once were but you could end up spending half of your budget on gas than you do commuting alone. Tolls are also pricy. When you carpool, you share the price.

Parking and Traffic

When you carpool, that means less cars on the road. When there are less cars on the road, there is less traffic. Another frustrating moment is when you can’t find an available parking spot at work. Carpooling helps eliminate the overcrowding in the parking lot.

Carpooling also has a positive effect on the environment. With less cars on the road the percentage of carbon that is emitted into the atmosphere decreases.

More Mileage, More Problems

When commuting back and forth to work five days a week, it is easy to put a lot of extra mileage on your car. If you are leasing your car, you might want to consider carpooling because leases have mileage limits. Even if you aren’t leasing, carpooling can help reduce the mileage on your car decreasing the risk of maintenance problems.

Tire 101 in Tulsa | Volvo of Tulsa

What Those Tire Codes Really Mean

Lincoln Tires

Tire Codes. Every tire has them and every driver gets confused by them. Those long, cryptic combination of numbers and letters found on the side of your tires actually do mean something.

At Bill Knight Lincoln we wanted to do a little Tire 101 to educate drivers in the Tulsa, Bixby, Broken Bow and Jenks area on tire codes and what they really mean so that the next time you buy tires, you know exactly what to look for.

First Letter

The first letter on the code, usually either stands for Passenger tire (P), Temporary tire (T), Light Truck (LT) or Commercial (C). Keep in mind, not every tire may include this letter.

First Number

This is the tire’s width in millimeters.

Number After the Slash

This number is called the Aspect Ratio which is the percentage of the height of the tire from the bead to the top of the tread.

Tire Construction / Second Letter

If this letter is an R, then that indicates it is a radial tire. Some performance tires have an additional number behind the R indicating maximum speed ratings. Radial is most common. Other less common tire constructions are indicated by  D for bias ply construction and B for belted tires.

Wheel Diameter

The number after the letter indicating the tire construction is the diameter, in inches, of the rim that the tire is able to fit. Tire sizes on modern vehicles usually range anywhere from 13 inches up to 22 inches – sometimes even larger.

Performance Index

The performance index follows the wheel diameter and specifies the tire speed and load ratings.

We hope that this knowledge on tire codes will help you with your tire purchase in the future. Come to Bill Knight Lincoln in Tulsa and see our wide selection of tires, shop online or give us a call with any questions you have about tires!

Winterizing Your Lincoln in Tulsa | Bill Knight Lincoln

2015 Lincoln Navigator

This winter is expected to be one of the worst yet to date. Tulsa is expected to get near to 13 inches of snow this year. If you were like the many stranded in the frigid weather last season, you might want to think about winterizing your car. The maintenance professionals at Bill Knight Lincoln in the Tulsa, Jenks, Broken Bow, and Bixby area have put together the best ways to winterize your car this winter.

Be sure to keep a good eye on all fluid levels. Coolant levels are extremely important to keep up with. Usually a mixture of ½ water and ½ coolant is recommended for driving throughout the year. After checking your coolant levels, make sure to look for any leaks.

A change in temperature can also affect the viscosity of your oil, so be sure to get your oil checked during winter to ensure that your car is running smoothly throughout the season without any problems.

Always check your gas level. If you’re one of those people who drives until your tank is empty, you might want to consider changing that habit. Having a tank above half-full at all times can help you in situations if you get stranded – you will be able to keep your car running for warmth.

Winter Kit

Don’t get left stranded unprepared. All of us here at Bill Knight Lincoln recommend everyone keep a winter kit in their car. Be sure to keep gloves, a coat, winter boots, water, ice scraper and a car charger. Having these things in your car will leave you prepared incase you get stranded in the ice or snow.

All-Weather Tires/Mats

We have a ton of all-weather tires to choose from at Bill Knight Lincoln that will protect your carpet from the snow, mud and ice. We also have all-weather mats that can come in handy if you need to gain traction on the ice.
